Matthijs PhD graduation

On January 6th, with heavy snowfall as a last hurdle in the PhD trajectory, Matthijs Baars obtained his PhD after a successful defense of his thesis: “Cellular cartography: Characterizing tissue immune landscapes in IBD and cancer”. As the first PhD candidate in our team, he layed the foundation for our spatial biology work when the field was still young. Matthijs developed essential tools for segmentation and data processing, resulting in the ‘MATISSE’ pipeline and applied this to investigate tissue immune landscapes that contribute to inflammation-driven intestinal cancer development and colon cancer metastasis. Congrats Dr. Baars!
